Sugar and Spice for your Face

Sugar and spices are a great combination for healthy skin.

Facial scrubs should be part of any beauty regimen, and the more natural they are the better. Personally, I always have my favorite St. Ive’s Apricot scrubs on hand for daily use but I also like to make my own scrubs now and then. Sugar is a light exfoliator that slowly melts as you massage it into your skin. No, it won’t make you break out. Actually, it does a good job of cleaning your pores without the harshness of salt scrubs.

Spices also have incredible benefits for the skin. Natural ingredients have been used since the beginning of time to preserve and beautify the skin. The aromatherapy alone is enough to clear your senses and start, or end, your day well. All you need is a bit of honey to combine the dry sugar and spices together. Honey is a natural antioxidant and cleans your pores while moisturizing at the same time. And no, again, using a bit shouldn’t cause break outs. As with all things, use in moderation.

Some spices you can pair up with sugar…

1) Nutmeg. Great for fading acne scars. You can use it as a scrub or a leave it one as a mask for a half hour to really get the full benefit.

2) Cinnamon. The soft graininess of this spice aids in the exfoliation of the skin and also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It will suck that dirt right out.

3) Turmeric. Used by Indian women as a crucial step in their skin care regimen. Turmeric is a mild yet effective ingredient for evening out skin tone and taking care of dark circles or scars. Because of its one-of-kind golden tint, you’ll be left with a golden glow!

4) Ginger. Another Asian ingredient that is very effective in cleaning our your pores. Fresh ginger that is scraped or mashed into a paste is best. It might sting a bit but that means its working. It will disinfect whatever is left over on your skin.
